Louth X Country 2008
Once upon a time, not so long ago,in a boggy corner
of a not so foreign field, seven intrepid souls set out to test their
bog-trotting skills.
During the day and night prior to the race there had been so much rain
(for any spanish viewers-muchos precipitationo) that before the race
commenced they had to move on some bloke in a big wooden boat full of
animals!.
First up for Mabo was the mens snorkelling held over 9.25km,where we
had to have police presence(thanks Andy Magnum) for our secret weapon
Toby the Tyke, known to some as the evergreen Mick Casey, who ran a strong
race throughout to finish 29th in 44mins 24secs,yellow and blue look
good on you mick Smile Smile Smile.Next to cross the line for Mabo was
the kaiser chief himself Wayne Kew who ran in his usual consistent style
to finish 36th in 45.25.
Completing the mens line up was the juggernaut himself Denzil Phillips
who was trying out some new shoes and set a blistering pace (literally-ouch)
but despite this discomfort finished in a very good 44th with 47.22.
Winner on the day was Geoff Knight of Boston AC from Richard Brown of
Louth AC'
In the ladies bogtrotting held over 5.03 km Mablethorpes own Janine
Stones easily eclipsed the oppositiion, and as she always does made it
look so effortless as she cruised to the win in 23.03.
Sheryl Hawse following on from last weeks performance showed once again
the underlying potential to be tapped into with a strong 10th place
in 27.40.Jackie Love was the next home for Mabo running a good consistent
race to come 23rd with 33.25.
The line up was completed by Lindsey Phillips, who, under strict instructions
not to let anyone past this week Exclamation Exclamation Evil or Very
Mad crossed the line in 30th with 36.45.
All in all a great, wet, squelchy, fun filled day was had by all including
Ross Poppins.
Well run to all members, lets hope our forces can be swelled in the future
by some of those absent today and those due to return from illness or
injury. .
