Thorpe Park 10k 16/11/2008

On a bright November’s day, eight Mablethorpe gladiators took the road north to Cleethorpes to do battle in the Thorpe Park 10k. This year the organisers had put some changes in place to hopefully alleviate the problems that were experienced in 2007, with the race being somewhere nearer 7k rather than 10k.
The first male home in a time of 31:49 was Pumlani Bangani of Salford Harriers. Cleethorpes runner Natalie Farrow won the ladies race with an impressive time of 36:02.
Heading the Mablethorpe runners home with a season’s and a six year personal best was Wayne Kew, with a time of 41:17 showing he is getting stronger all the time in his comeback after last years operations. Next in was Mark Collingwood with a PB time of 41:42, showing his ever improving form this year. Mark Lovett was the next Mablethorpe runner home with a time of 42:10 showing his road form is back to where it was earlier in the year where he set his PB of 42:09 at the Woodhal Spa 10k. After last weeks Poppy Run fiasco Denzil Phillips smashed his Clumber Park 10k PB by 1 minute 28 seconds with a time of 43:36. New member Andy Hawken showed his training is paying off setting a PB of 51:03 which was 7 minutes 35 seconds faster than his Mablethorpe 10k time this year. Jason Woodham’s return to running after an operation continued in fine form with a great run knocking 2 minutes off his PB in a time of 53:04. First lady in for Mablethorpe was Helen Jepson with a good time of 1:04:53, closely followed by Jane Lammiman in a time of 1:08:32, both ladies showing grit and determination. Thanks must go to Ross, Debbie, Amanda, & Linds for their support on the day, showing other local running clubs we are the best supported around. Thanks also to Cleethorpes AC who put on a great race in a great venue, which has true PB potential for all runners.
